What is the best ceramic coating in Austin, Texas?
The best ceramic coating depends on what you want. Traditional ceramic coatings protect your paint and make your car easier to clean, but they do not stop rock chips. At Dripping Auto Pros in Dripping Springs, we offer both traditional ceramic coatings and advanced self-healing coatings that help reduce swirl marks and minor scratches while protecting your vehicle from the Texas sun, bugs, and road grime.

There are a lot of “professional” ceramic coatings on the market, but the truth is many of them struggle to perform past 2–3 years in real-world conditions.

Do you know how much paint is actually on your car?
The entire paint system is only 100–150 microns thick—about the thickness of a dollar bill. Out of that, the clear coat is just 30–60 microns. A human hair is 60–80 microns. The layer protecting your car is about as thick as a single strand of hair.
Bug guts can start etching within 24 hours in Texas heat and turn permanent in a few days. Hard water leaves minerals behind that begin reacting right away and can bake into the surface.
You’ve got heat, acid, and minerals working against a clear coat that’s equivalent to a strand of hair.
So, how can you preserve and protect the paint on your luxury car?

Paint Protection Film (PPF/Clear Bra)
Overall, PPF is the best form of paint protection. It’s twice as thick as your paint and undetectable if installed by an experienced technician. It’s also the highest price of the three options. The downside is that PPF can turn yellow, and it’s harder to keep clean compared to a ceramic coating. That’s why we put a coating on PPF for our clients.

Traditional ceramic coatings
Traditional ceramic coatings are a 25 year old technology. The popularity of a ceramic coating spread as consumers discovered they no longer had to wax their cars. While it offers better protection than wax, ceramic coatings are only 1-2 microns thick. The limitations include no chop protection or self-healing properties.

Revivify CarbonX
Revivify is an innovation in the automotive liquid paint protection field. Unlike a traditional ceramic coating, Revivify’s CarbonX is 5 microns thick per single layer. Up to 3 layers may be installed, offering better protection than a ceramic coating. Plus, it has self-healing properties similar to PPF.
Cost: $2200-3200 Full Size Car

Your choice of protection is not an either/or choice. You can combine PPF and Revivify to get the best of both technologies. For instance, many of our clients have PPF in the high impact areas and Revivify on the entire car. The benefit is maximum protection where it counts with PPF, and total UV protection on the entire vehicle, all with self-healing capability.

Common Questions About Ceramic Coatings
What is a ceramic coating?
A ceramic coating is a protective layer applied to your vehicle’s paint that helps resist UV damage, chemical stains, and makes the vehicle easier to clean. Most ceramic coatings are made with silica dioxide (SiO2), which creates a hard, protective surface.
Does ceramic coating stop rock chips?
No. Traditional ceramic coatings do not stop rock chips. If your main concern is rock chip protection, paint protection film (PPF) is the best option.
That said, with Revivify CarbonX you can prevent smaller chips and pitting. With 3 layers of CarbonX on your bumper, you add about 15 microns of flexible paint protection for minor pitting.
Does ceramic coating prevent scratches?
Ceramic coating adds a hard protective layer that resists light swirls and minor scratches, but it is not scratch-proof. CarbonX is a self-healing coating for swirls and minor scratches; however, for maximum scratch and chip protection, Paint Protection Film (PPF) is the better option. Many clients combine both for complete coverage.
Do I need paint correction before ceramic coating?
In most cases yes – ceramic coating locks in whatever condition your paint is in. If there are swirls, scratches, or water spots, they will be sealed under the coating. That’s why every package we offer includes a Stage 1 paint correction before application.
How is CarbonX different from other ceramic coatings?
Most ceramic coatings add 1-2 microns of protection per layer. Revivify CarbonX adds up to 5 microns in a single application – making it the thickest single layer coating available. It also has self-healing properties, meaning minor swirls disappear with heat. There are only a handful of Elite Installers in the entire United States – and we are the only one in Austin.
Which is better: traditional ceramic coating or self-healing coating?
It depends on what you want.
